Welcome to the second installment of my horribly named interview series, The 5 Minute InTRUview; the interview series where I take people I don’t really know much about who are active in the design community and try to get to know them in 5 minutes! Today I interview Kelly Murphy of saucewear.com. Lets get to it!
Trudesign: Who is your daddy and what does he do? (And by daddy I mean You)
Kelly Murphy: My name is Kelly Murphy, I own saucewear which is a tshirt design business, I live in Boston and I also work full time at a telecommunications giant
Tru: Where did you get the idea for saucewear?
KM: Hmmmm.…it was a name that I came up with by talking to a friend of mine who was originally a partner in the business. She is no longer part of the business, but that’s a whole different story, it came about using the word “saucy” and adding a bit of clothing to it. saucewear, bang.
Tru: BOOM! Do you fear the Fens at night? (if you don’t know what they are just say Yes and move on, trust me)
KM: yes, very much so
Tru: Patriots/Red Sox?
KM: GO PATS!
Tru: were you in town for the riots? (i was!) (in 03)
KM: no, I was safe in my house! YOU WERE? WTF you should’ve called…
Tru: Did you do college?
KM: yes, to be a travel agent. That sucked.
Tru: So telecomm giant, as a designer?
KM: nope, not even. customer service, it pays the bills, been there 13 years
Tru: Boston is pretty young and ecclectic, get big inspiration form the city for saucewear? 1 minute!
KM: I do tend to see whats hot around the city and try to incorporate it into my designs, but mostly when I do custom work for clients
Tru: If you could travel anywhere right now where would it be?
KM: hmmmmm.…… back to Australia for sure
Tru: Who would win in a fight, Pope John Paul or Pope Benedict the 16th?
KM: PJP!!! FOR LIFE! LOL
Tru: Do you Paahk Ya Cah IN the Yahd?
KM: HAHA yep! every day
Tru: 5:10 seconds thats close enough Thanks so much!
KM: THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN!!
